The ASSOCIATION OF GREEK JUDGES AND PUBLIC PROSECUTORS FOR THE DEMOCRACY AND THE LIBERTIES was established on the 30 of November 1988 as an initiative of its President George Stavropoulos, Vice President of the Council of State, who was also one of the founder members of MEDEL since 1987.

The activities of the Association, during the last 20 years were many and interesting as well, like conferences, scientific events and interventions, having to do with individual, political or social liberties and issues which drew the attention of the public, like the case of the Curd leader Otsalan (1999), the publication of the religion on the identity cards of the citizens (2000), the Constitutional Reform (2001) and the so called “purification” in the field Of Justice (2005).
